Measurement System
Popular project presets
Measure your practice swatch

Use the same yarn, hook and stitch as your project. Measure after washing and drying as intended. Record the yarn used for the whole measured swatch, excluding loose tails.

Enter positive project, swatch and ball measurements to calculate an estimate.

Estimated Total Yarn—0 meters (+10% safety buffer)
Skeins Needed—at 200 yards each

This scales your swatch to a rectangle and adds 10%. It excludes separate borders, seams and shaping; allow for these using your pattern. A buffer cannot guarantee enough yarn. Use matching dye lots where colour consistency matters.

How it works

  • Select a preset or enter the finished width and length you want for your item (in inches or centimetres).
  • Choose a yarn-weight label for your notes; it does not determine the calculation.
  • Enter the dimensions and measured yarn use of your swatch. Project area divided by swatch area determines the scale factor.
  • Enter the actual length per ball from its label. Ball weight alone does not determine yardage.
  • A 10% allowance is included. Calculate borders and other pieces separately.
